A breathwork retreat is only as good as the breathwork.

Most "breathwork retreats" include breathwork as one of several modalities on a wellness weekend. The work here is structured around it. Michael's training comes through the LOKA School of Yoga in the lineage of Swami Satyananda Saraswati - classical pranayama, with modern nervous system work alongside.

Breathwork that's trained, not freelanced.

The space between "I tried breathwork once" and "this is a practice" is who's guiding it.

01

Lineage you can trace

LOKA School of Yoga, lineage of Swami Satyananda Saraswati. Pranayama refined over centuries.

02

Mechanism, not magic

Intermittent hypoxia. Vagus nerve stimulation. CO2 tolerance. Studied effects, not metaphors.

03

Structured, not improvised

Each session has a sequence and a reason for each stage. Michael previews what to expect.

04

Embedded in the work

Breathwork shows up alongside ceremony, intuitive coaching, and rest - part of the broader work, not a sampler.

What tends to happen across three days

Physical sensations. Emotional content surfacing without effort. The mind quieting in ways it usually doesn't. By day three, the shift tends to be in how you're inhabiting your body - not a peak experience.

1:1 coaching is the other entry point.

Breathwork shows up regularly inside Michael's 1:1 coaching, monthly via Zoom or phone, when the moment calls for it.

FAQs

Find answers to commonly asked questions about Sanatya and our services.

What's a breathwork session actually like?

A typical session runs 45-75 minutes, with periods of rhythmic breathing alternating with breath retentions. Michael previews the structure beforehand. On retreat, sessions are spaced across the three days so the work has time to integrate.

Do I need any experience?

No. Most men coming through Sanatya have done little or no breathwork before.

Are there safety considerations?

Some forms aren't appropriate for everyone - particularly people with certain cardiovascular conditions, recent surgeries, or specific psychiatric histories. The discovery call covers any relevant history before a spot is confirmed.
